Atami - letteralmente ‘mare caldo’ - si trova nella prefettura di Shizuoka e deve il nome alle proprietà delle sue acque termali, dall’elevato contenuto salino. L’acqua ad alta temperatura è particolarmente indicata per chi soffre di nevralgia e ha effetti tonificanti.

Atami Onsen è famosa per essere stata immortalata dal celebre incisore e pittore Hiroshige in una stampa. Le terme affacciamo sul mare e sono vicine alla splendida pineta sulla spiaggia di Miho no Matsubara, che merita una visita.

Qui, oltre ai bagni nelle acque benefiche, si possono visitare il Castello di Atami, il Museo d’arte MOA e la Foresta di Acao con i suoi 12 giardini a tema. Prima di tornare, è d’obbligo assaggiare l’onsen manju, una specie di raviolo dolce a base di fagioli tipico della zona.
