POGGIARELLO, STORIES OF PASSION AND HOSPITALITY
VAL TREBBIA, THE LAND OF WINE THAT NARRATES THE TERRITORY’S BEAUTY AND QUALITY
Every bottle of wine tells a story and this one began in 1882 thanks to the happy encounter of Achille Ferrari, carpenter and expert wine barrel maker, with Antonio Perini,a young farmer and wine maker in Val D’Arda. Generation after generation with increasing professionalism, passion, and the wish to expand into the nearby valleys led Perini to take over, in the 1980s, the farm estate of Poggiarello in Val Trebbia. Nature and environment gifted the estate with a land perfect for vineyards and today the land has been recuperated and valorized. From the very beginning Il Poggiarello shared the same philosophy that inspired the creation of the
Wine Tourism Movement, which welcomes guests as friends and sincere counselors. Visitors to the estate are welcomed in the main building, a mid 1800s rustic building, adapted with an intelligent restoration, and used as a tavern and wine cellar. From the old portico overlooking the fresh garden and terrace, framed by vinyards as far as the eye can see, one can enjoy the enchanting panorama on Piacenza and its castles that surround the plain of Statto. The grapes grown here are local varieties like Barbera, Croatina, Malvasia and Ortrugo as well as international varieties such as Pinot nero, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The best way to fully understand a wine is to match it perfectly with a dish and thus for the summer season 2020 a bistrot has been inaugurated that makes it even more pleasant to visit the cantina. Today Il Poggiarello is part of the larger F&P Wine Group which for the past 138 years has managed more than 300 hectares of vinyards producing more than 8 million bottles. These are exported to 30 countries with different labels and have received many international prizes.
