Green emotions on Lake Como
REPORT
Beauty and sustainability are a winning combination for Lake Como, with electric boats, energy-saving measures adopted by the most beautiful hotels in the world and ever more glamorous events.
Lake Como is increasingly striving for zero environmental impact. Fittingly, the city of Como is the birthplace of Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the battery and physicist who dedicated his life to the study of electricity.
Lake Como is a sustainability pioneer: from Lucia, the famous electric boat with wheels from Cantieri Matteri known as “Eta Beta 3000”, a recent prize-winner at the Venice Boat Show, and electric boats in the province of Lecco, to the breathtaking 20-km, all-green cycle path that runs along the north of the lake between Domaso and Colico, opened in 2018.
The lake’s full and diverse programme of events can be found on www.lakecomo.it. Not to be missed are the 100th anniversary celebrations of the renowned Italian motorcycle manufacturer Moto Guzzi from 6 to 12 September. Featuring an international motorcycle rally and a week of festivities, exhibitions, culture and fun, this event celebrates one of the world’s most famous and acclaimed Italian motorcycle companies in the world, based in Mandello del Lario. Also highly anticipated is the Concorso d’Eleganza Ville d’Este vintage car rally from 1 to 3 October. An original idea? Admire the stunning lakeside villas from above: Aero
Club Como, the Italian seaplane concern that is the envy of the world, offers 30-minute flights for you to take in the whole lake.
