A villa overlooking the Costa Blanca
In Altea, in the Alicante region, the firm GV Arquitecnia of Valencia has renovated a 90’s building for a Dutch couple ‘Good health to all’. This, in Arabic, is the origin of the word Altea, the name of a Moorish village of a few thousand inhabitants on the Costa Blanca in the Alicante region, the location of a 250m2 villa, designed by Uruguayan architect Carlos Giraldi in the nineties and recently renovated by the firm GV Arquitecnia for a Dutch couple. Designed over two floors, with a double-height living room, it is illuminated by a glass wall which enables a 360 degree view. Architect Javier Guerri of the studio GV Arquitecnia tells Ville&Casali:‘The owners asked us to completely renovate the entire villa. The main request concerned the transformation of the spaces into a home ideal for a couple and some guests. The second request consisted of making the building sustainable from an energy perspective, in addition to repairing the facade and the roofs’. ‘Several modifications were made to change the villa’s original layout’, the architect explains. We initially designed a master bedroom with all of the furnishing elements integrated and well placed, knocking down walls that previously separated the sleeping area from the bathroom and the walk-in closet, using the east wing of the building connected to the swimming pool. Ensuring privacy, light and a view. The kitchen space was then completely renovated using a minimalist design. The black and white kitchen opens up to the living room, expanding the view of the lounge when entering the villa and going down to the floor below. On the upper floor, we transformed two old bedrooms into a new lounge, with a smaller lounge with a fireplace to be used on more wintery days. We built a gym near the swimming pool and the jacuzzi outside the building, naturally lit and furnished with plants so as to create a very relaxing fitness space’. Lastly, we used solar panels to eliminate the use of gas.
