In Tel Aviv a home with a patio captures the light

-

Architect Meirav Galan has transformed interior and exterior architecture of a terraced villa, keeping its original aesthetic character by building a green patio to illuminate spaces A magnificent home in the picturesque quarter of Neve Tzedek in Tel Aviv has been transformed by architect Meirav Galan, expanding and redesigning some of its structural sections. The idea was to create a visual contrast, combining elements belonging to another time with contemporary architecture, closer to modern everyday needs. The central patio, then, should become the living heart of the home, a harmonious space that can make a building unique. It was perfect as an additional source of light and social space, to provide families with a private and intimate outdoor space. The structure, with steel beams and iron frames blends completely with the furnishing and emphasises the contrast between the new and the old as well and placing the accent on materials and coverings used.

The strong relationship with the exterior sought by the architect has created a new architectural balance. Interior designer Dana Oberson has paid careful attention to furnishings and complements, chosen to recall a retro design linked at the same time to a contemporary mood, adapted to modern family life. The upper levels have a typically industrial appearance which corresponds to the international style of the 1930s which is very common throughout Tel Aviv. The renovation completed in 2020 led to a significant increase in square footage, from 250 to 580m2, of which 190m2 is underground.
