@krikorjabotian - since 2009
How did you take your first steps in the fashion business? Krikor Jabotian: “After graduating from ESMOD Beirut, I started my career in the creative department of Elie Saab. Then I was contacted by the Starch Foundation to create my first independent line.” How would you describe
the style of your brand? “Revisited classicism. My brand is known for its intricate embellishments, along with volumes and structural experimentation.” How much does Lebanon influence
your work? “I draw a lot of inspiration from both Lebanon and Armenia, since I also have Armenian origins. These two cultures are incredibly rich, and it’s difficult not to identify them in my work.”
Whom do you design for? “A modern-day woman with a strong character, who still has a leaning towards the authentic and the classic.”
Where do you produce your collections? “With the exception of some embroideries which are made in India, pretty much everything is produced in-house in Beirut.” What do you think of
social media? “It’s played a big part in getting us where we are today. It seems to work like an online catalogue, especially for clients in the region who, due to the political situation, find it difficult to visit us.” How many pieces do you sell in Lebanon and how many abroad? “We sell 15% in Lebanon, and the rest overseas.” What’s
next for your brand? “We’re focusing on increasing our presence at international red-carpet events. Hopefully within a couple of years we can also get into ready-to-wear.”
