ELIRAN NARGASSI
When did you decide to become a fashion designer? Eliran Nargassi: “While working on my final project at Shenkar College in Tel Aviv.” What is the style of your brand? “Minimalistic, with graphic cuts and a relaxed, oversized feel.” How are you influenced by your country’s heritage? “Many of my collections reflect the tension between religion and secularism. I’m also inspired by the differences between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, where I used to live.” Where is your brand currently distributed? “Only in Tel Aviv and online from our website, Not Just A Label, We Are Selecters and Etsy.” Awards and other acknowledgments? “In September 2015 I won a 30,000 NIS grant sponsored by Mifal Hapais, the Israeli State Lottery, which includes showing at the next Tel Aviv Fashion Week.” What was the turning point in your career? “When I showed my portfolio to Sara Maino, senior editor of Vogue Italia and Vogue Talents, on her visit to Israel last year.” What are the main challenges for emerging Israeli designers? “One problem is having to import fabrics all the time due to the lack of variety available here. Furthermore, Israeli boutiques only do consignment when working with local designers.” What is your approach to design? “I try my pieces on me first. If they feel good, I send them to manufacturing.” Any advice for other young designers? “Stay unique and loyal to your design.”
