JUSLIN MAUNULA

- juslinmaunula.com - @laurajuslin since 2015

How did you two meet? Laura Juslin and Lilli Maunula: “We started our studies at Aalto University in the same year.” How would you describe the style of Juslin Maunula? “With a focus on unassuming structures and innovative materials, our collections focus on a clean simplicity and the harmony between optimal shapes, surfaces and cuts. We also use carefully tuned colours, often in the form of blocking, and structural self-developed materials.” What is unique about your brand? “We see it as a three-dimensional experience including the space created around our pieces. The collection and space intertwine in a harmonic, holistic experience.” Does Finland influence your work? “The brand’s visual world is influenced by our Finnish roots, but we don’t let tradition restrict our work. Finland is so far away from the fashion capitals that we can perceive fashion from an outsider’s perspective.” What kind of woman do you have in mind when you design? “Our woman is modern and she looks after her appearance, but she’s easy-going enough to stop by the fish market on her way home. She is elegant in a relaxed way.” Where do you produce your collections? “In Finland, Estonia, Belgium and Italy. The embroideries are made in India.” Any tips for emerging designers? “Work for established companies before starting your own business.”
