The Pineider brand has a fascinating history that goes back 240 years, to its founder Francesco Pineider. Pineider was such a forwardlooking businessman that not only did he open a paper shop in the center of Florence in 1774, he also introduced techniques that were very advanced for that era in terms of printing, fonts, relief designs and with a specialization in complex crests and monograms, all engraved strictly by hand. Europe’s upper classes and royalty certainly took notice and were faithful Pineider customers along with names like Napoleon, Lord Byron and Stendhal. Over the years, leather goods—boasting centuries of Tuscan tradition in leather manufacture—and writing instruments also became a focus alongside the paper products. The brand’s famous stationery won over famous people from around the world in the past, such as Maria Callas, Henry Ford, Marlene Dietrich, Rudolf Nureyev along with intellectuals like Luigi Pirandello and Luchino Visconti, just to name a few. More recently, Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, Madonna and Sting have become fans of the brand. At the end of 2016, Pineider became part of the Rovagnati group – headed up by Claudia, Ferruccio and Lorenzo Rovagnati – but the historic Florentine brand still represents excellent craftsmanship today. Members of the Rovagnati group say it is a privilege to work with a name that has roots that go so far back in Italian history, after a 240year journey that includes traditions and an art that still continue on today throughout the world and in a contemporary way.
