Designer Ana-Katarina’s eponymous fine jewelry collection is the artistic culmination of her diverse visual lexicon, informed by her travels and passion for social justice. Her work taps into the talismanic nature of precious adornment and the universal strength inherent to the female experience. Growing up surrounded by art, she aims to create a body of work that is more than just jewelry, but rather fine art in its own right, passed down and treasured from generation to generation. In 1999, long before sustainability because a buzzword in design, Ana-Katarina was one of the first to work with conflict-free Canadian diamonds, and to switch to recycled gold. Moreover, as bespoke, private client jeweler, she produced her jewelry where she resided to support local artisans. In 2015, she launched AnaKatarina Fine Jewelry in New York to serve a larger audience, using only recycled gold, fair-trade gemstones, and traceable diamonds. The “Cloud 9” earrings and ring were born out of reverence for nature’s sublime beauty and some of its unique materials – rare, cloud-shaped aquamarines and Sea of Cortez pearls harvested from one of the world’s only sustainable pearl farms. The “elegant synergy” between the two gems inspired Ana-Katarina to make the “Cloud 9” pieces communicate joyfulness and sensuality. Ana-Katarina believes that the rise of ethical jewelry heralds a new era of compassion, in which concerned consumers will support brands dedicated to sustainability and social justice. In 2017, AnaKatarina Fine Jewelry launched the “Iconic Women” campaign, celebrating the stories of real women whose exceptional achievements challenge the fashion and advertising industries’ stereotypes. Through her commitment to female empowerment and ethical design, Ana-Katarina hopes to inspire the next generation of creators, including her three daughters.
