Dazzling contemporary jewelry with a Brazilian soul and an ethical approach: the Verde Collection is a firework of unmatched creativity and a strong homage to sustainability

Coming from a country that holds some of the greatest biodiversity on the planet and is one of the top producers of precious and semi-precious stones in the world, Moritz Glik is aware of the importance of ethical sourcing, fair trading, and the need to reduce waste in the fine jewelry production process. Best known for his signature Kaleidoscope Shaker – loose gemstones enclosed in a white sapphire crystal case – the New York City-based fine jewelry designer now honors his Brazilian heritage with Verde, a new collection exceptionally tropical in spirit. Verde, the Portuguese word for green, is a limited series collection with a dazzling array of unique pieces, introducing innovative natural materials such as tagua – a palm tree nut found in the Amazon Rainforest – and coconut shells and vegan leather. “Sustainability cannot be faced just as a plus anymore. It needs to become intrinsic to the brand’s design process and considered in every decision made within the company. That goes from choosing the right suppliers to day-to-day doings, like saving water and being mindful of energy consumption. It’s about time for society to understand that protecting the future of our planet is everyone’s duty,” says Moritz. His actions reflect his words, as the designer’s whimsical approach towards sustainable materials is demonstrative of high creativity and a strong commitment to sustainability. Verde employs the use of ethically sourced diamonds and 18K gold upcycled in-house; the vegan leather is made from pineapple leaves, while the coconut shells come from coconuts harvested by local producers on the coast of Brazil’s State of Bahia, then purchased by Moritz Glik himself directly from the source.
