So Young So Old

From international competitions to end-of-year shows, NABA students have proven that they are able to bring together the best in fashion and art.

-

Its academic traditions go back forty years, with deep roots in art and culture. NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, is based on these important elements, and, as of this year, there is a campus in Rome to go along with the historic Milan location. The school is known for its interdisciplinary approach, from both creative and practical points of view. Its three-year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fashion Design and the two-year Master of Arts Degree in Fashion and Textile Design allow students to develop cultural and methodological tools while researching and experimenting with contemporary techniques and languages. This allows them to conceptualize their own projects, many of which are collaborations with prestigious fashion companies and institutions, able to meet the needs of the professional world and fashion industry. What’s more, students in these courses are often awarded some of the most prestigious prizes in the industry: John Llyod Palomares won the YKK Prize during Milano Moda Graduate, Irene De Vecchi brought home the Reca Award during the ISKO I-SKOOL competition, and another group of talents was given the chance to create uniforms for the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo (Archaeological Park of the Colosseum – Rome) thanks to an open call put out by Altaroma. The end-of-year events are always an important showcase. Those in the bachelor’s programme put on a fashion show titled “So Young So Old” with collections from 30 designers, along with a sustainable capsule collection created under the tutelage of Tiziano Guardini. Those in the two-year MA programme held a performance at the Triennale Milano, curated by Romeo Gigli, who came up with a variety of tableaux vivants using the students’ pieces as inspiration.
