DJ KHALED REMIXES DOLCE&GABBANA

Music’s coolest cat DJ Khaled has spun a fresh collection alongside Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The result is a sweet mix of fierceness and floral that should prove a summer hit from Miami to Milano.

The urban vibe of downtown Miami is coming to the Mediterranean thanks to Dolce&Gabbana’s new menswear collaboration with Grammy Award-winning Miami-based artist DJ Khaled. The Dolce&Gabbana x Khaled Khaled capsule collection was created in partnership with DJ Khaled, a long-time fan of the house who regularly wears Dolce&Gabbana for performances and red-carpet appearances. This obsession is shared by the whole Khaled family, with the artist’s wife and children wearing matching Dolce&Gabbana pyjamas for their family Christmas card. It was a logical next step, therefore, for the brand to explore working with DJ Khaled to design a collection that would celebrate a clash of distinctive creative cultures and generate a new aesthetic for the maison. “Working together has been very natural,” said the designers regarding DJ Khaled, whose “energy and passion” inspired the collaboration. The worlds of fashion and music often go hand in hand, and it seems that a shared artistic vision laid the foundations for this project: “Although [we work] in different areas, we speak the same language,” explain the designers. The capsule collection combines Dolce&Gabbana’s signature stripes, polka dots and vibrant colours. Rap music aficionados will recognise a striking resemblance between the lion graphic and the big cat portrayed on the cover of DJ Khaled’s Major Key album, while other garments are emblazoned with We the Best, the title of another of his albums. The choice of these motifs couldn’t be more fitting for a brand associated with bold and confident glitterati. Other pieces in the collection draw inspiration from the Miami district of Wynwood, which is famed for its colourful urban graffiti. Accordingly, we find graphic prints overlapping with rambling bougainvillea flowers – typical of the Mediterranean – and luscious Florida agaves and palms. The result is an explosion of colour and energy, weaving together separate worlds to produce something truly unique. The collection includes both ready-to-wear and beachwear and is available in selected Dolce&Gabbana boutiques as well as online.
