CELLULOSICS
AlgiKnit produces textile fibres extruded from kelp, a variety of seaweed. The thread can be knitted or 3D printed to minimise waste, and the final biodegradable knitwear can be dyed with natural pigments in a closed-loop cycle. Spinnova, meanwhile, employs the same wood pulp used for making paper from responsibly managed forests. From this raw material, they produce a white filament with the stretch and strength qualities of cotton and the insulation properties of lamb’s wool. This fibre can be recycled many times without degrading or using harmful chemicals.
