BIOPOLYMERS
Thanks to a patented technology created by FullCycle, inedible food waste, agricultural by-products and used paper can be transformed into polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), biopolymers that degrade harmlessly in the soil and ocean. These bioplastics can also replace fossil-fuel-based fibres in existing machinery and processes. Bolt Threads, instead, is the company that developed Microsilk, a strong, elastic, durable and soft silk fibre inspired by the work of spiders. The production involves a bioengineering process based on yeast, sugar and water.
