LECAVALIER
“My grandfather was a wrestler and his tales have stuck with me.
I was amazed by the world of this theatrical sport and the meaning of the story behind it. There’s so much more to it, as Roland Barthes explained wonderfully in his writing. The brand has the family name in honour of my grandfather, who was a pure example of strength and resilience, so I’ve always connected with those qualities and wanted my clothes to be like a sort of invisible shield that protects the spirit of the humans who wear them.”
“For me, the future lies in modern craftsmanship and textile development. As a Canadian trying to build something in Canada, my goal is to showcase the talent and enthusiasm we have here for high fashion, and to lay strong foundations for our dressmaking craft. More than my roots, I think the basis of my creativity is what’s happening around the world. In my brand, there’s the sense of doing a lot with not much. It’s about using what you have and finding solutions with restraints as a creative force. Our interlocking pieces are all locally made at our facility with deadstock material.”
