Focus on the New Generation
Rome Fashion Week opened the doors of Cinecittà’s historic studios for a return to the runways in grand style, with limited live events and on its digital platform.
From 7 to 10 July, during Altaroma, the spaces of Cinecittà were enlivened by talks, fashion shows, presentations, the Showcase project, now in its eighth edition and devoted to emerging brands, and the final of Who is on Next?, a talent scouting initiative in partnership with Vogue Italia. Made in Italy played a central role, both live and on the Altaroma Digital Runway platform. In this way the capital confirmed its potential as an incubator of new talents in the fashion system triangle with Milan and Florence. “The fashion of the future starts again from Rome,” explains Silvia Venturini Fendi, President of Altaroma. “More than any other capital, it embodies a forceful, eclectic spirit, animated by fascinating aesthetic contradictions that characterize the creative communities of present and future. Altaroma is a professional elevator that starts from the schools and successfully finds placements in the fashion sector. We hope this initiative will be increasingly appreciated and supported by the institutions. As is the case with this July edition, presented thanks to a significant commitment by the Rome Chamber of Commerce and the Lazio Region, supported by the ICE Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.”
The finalists in the talent scouting project Who is on Next? were Alessandro Vigilante, ATXV, CTRL+Z, Gentile Cantone, Italian Family, Kidsofbrokenfuture, Marcello Pipitone, and Simon Cracker for the ready-to-wear category; ID.Eight, Niccolò
Pasqualetti, Piferi and Marco Trevisan for accessories. ATXV of Antonio Tarantini, Niccolò Pasqualetti and Piferi of Alfredo Piferi won the first prize awarded by Altaroma and Vogue Italia, with the support of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Pitti Immagine and, from this year, Camera Moda Fashion Trust. The three winners were also awarded the Franca Sozzani Prize, which brings them special visibility and mentoring. As a new initiative in this edition, an important fundraising promoted by Altaroma, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and Camera Moda Fashion Trust brought the three winners a grant of 15,000 euros for the growth and development of their brand. Thanks to Pitti Immagine, Italian Family and ID.Eight received the Pitti Tutoring & Consulting Prize: six months of pro bono mentorship to support and promote designers in their professional and creative development. The Manteco Prize, offered by the Tuscan textile company of the same name, went to Alessandro Vigilante, who will be supported with a supply of fine fabrics for the development of two collections. Also featured on the runways at Rome Fashion Week were Dalpaos, Edoardo Gallorini, Roi du Lac, Vescovo, Caterina Moro, Gretel Z., Annagiulia Firenze and Casa Preti, together with the three collective shows of Rome is my Runway and graduate shows by many of the Italian fashion academies, such as IED - Istituto Europeo di Design, Accademia Costume & Moda and Accademia Koefia.
