The most traditional and popular dates on the Milanese events calendar is the ‘Oh Bej! Oh Bej!’ fair (7-10 December), an event that has heralded the arrival of the Christmas festivities for five centuries. Held on 7 December on the feast of Sant’Ambrogio, the city's Patron Saint, the market, featuring stalls selling sweet treats, bric a brac and artisanal jewelry, is located in the area around Castello Sforzesco. Traditional festive sweet treats can also be found at the Christmas market in piazza Duomo (see photo), while the Villaggio delle Meraviglie (1 December-6 January, Giardini Indro Montanelli) offers a selection of handcrafted objects and decorations, plus themed entertainment for the whole family. For those who want to experience the best of Italian and international craftsmanship, the go-to place is AF-Artigiano in Fiera, a one-of-a-kind event held in the pavilions of FieramilanoRho from 1-9 December. Items on offer include food, objet d'art and clothing – an absolute must for those in search of an original Christmas gift (www.artigianoinfiera.it).
