Gal­lerie d’Italia-Pi­azza Scala

MUST-SEE The Gal­lerie d'Italia-Pi­azza Scala are housed in three his­toric build­ings over­look­ing Mi­lan's el­e­gant via Man­zoni, pi­azza della

Scala and via Morone. Two build­ings host mas­ter­pieces of 19th cen­tury Ital­ian art from the col­lec­tions of Fon­dazione Cariplo and In­tesa San­paolo: the op­u­lent Neo-clas­si­cal rooms of Palazzo An­guis­sola and the 19th cen­tury Palazzo Brentani. Leonardo3 – The World of Leonardo

The ex­hibit al­lows visi­tors to ap­pre­ci­ate the many sides of Leonardo da Vinci's tech­ni­cal and artis­tic pro­duc­tion with in­ter­ac­tive sta­tions, fully func­tion­ing maschines made from study­ing Leonardo's manuscripts, un­prece­dented phys­i­cal re­con­struc­tions, dig­i­tal restora­tions and three­d­i­men­sional re­con­struc­tions of his creations. This is the only place in the world where visi­tors can see a re­con­struc­tion of “The Last Sup­per” as it was 500 year ago, when Leonardo painted it. The ex­hibit is pro­duced bt the Leonardo3 (L3) Re­search Cen­ter. All in­ter­ac­tive ex­pe­ri­ences are both in English and Ital­ian and the au­dio guides are avail­able in Ital­ian, English, Rus­sian, Ger­man, French, Span­ish, Por­tuguese and Chi­nese. MUDEC – Mu­seum of Cul­tures

Lo­cated in­side an old in­dus­trial build­ing that was for­merly part of the An­saldo com­plex, MUDEC is a multi-dis­ci­plinary hub ded­i­cated to cul­tures of the world, fea­tur­ing dif­fer­ent spa­ces that of­fer visi­tors a mul­ti­plic­ity of cul­tural pro­pos­als and ser­vices, spread out over 17,000 sq.m.: rooms host­ing the mu­seum's col­lec­tion and tem­po­rary ex­hi­bi­tions, an au­di­to­rium, a bistrot, a de­sign store, a cafe­te­ria, a restau­rant, a li­brary, work­shops and a ju­nior space. An­tique art, paint­ings, pe­riod fur­ni­ture, sculp­tures and mu­si­cal in­stru­ments are housed in Castello Sforzesco's pre­cious trea­sure trove. The build­ing alone is well worth a visit. Museo del Duomo

To­tally re­fur­bished in 2013, the mu­seum houses and high­lights all the ma­te­rial not presently in use in the Duomo, linked to its his­tory and con­struc­tion. Com­pris­ing 2,000 square me­tres of space, twenty seven rooms and thir­teen the­matic ar­eas, the mu­seum hosts more than two hun­dred sculp­tures and over seven hun­dred gyp­sum mod­els and then again paint­ings, stained glass win­dows, ta­pes­tries and ar­chi­tec­tural mod­els rang­ing from the 15th cen­tury to the present day. Housed in a 16th cen­tury monastery, this is one of the most im­por­tant mu­se­ums of science and tech­nol­ogy in the world. Its col­lec­tions ex­plore the re­la­tion­ship be­tween men and ma­chines start­ing from the in­ge­nious in­ven­tions of the world fa­mous Leonardo da Vinci. Museo Teatrale alla Scala

Founded in 1913, it re­cently un­der­went an im­por­tant makeover and is ded­i­cated to the his­tory of the fa­mous Mi­lan Opera House with a vast col­lec­tion of mu­si­cal in­stru­ments and doc­u­ments ded­i­cated to fa­mous mu­si­cians, in­clud­ing Verdi and Toscanini. Pi­na­coteca di Br­era

Opened to the pub­lic in 1809, the Pi­na­coteca di Br­era is lo­cated in the Neo-clas­si­cal build­ing of the same name which also houses other cul­tural in­sti­tu­tions in­clud­ing the Braidense Li­brary, the Astro­nom­i­cal Ob­ser­va­tory, the Botan­i­cal Gar­dens, the Isti­tuto Lom­bardo Ac­cademia di Scienze e Let­tere and the Academy of Fine Arts. The Pi­na­coteca hosts one of the most spec­tac­u­lar col­lec­tions of art in Italy. The new lay­outs of its rooms is sched­uled for com­ple­tion by 2018. Tri­en­nale di Mi­lano

The Tri­en­nale di Mi­lano is one of the most vi­brant, pop­u­lar and im­por­tant ex­hi­bi­tion cen­tres in the city. Fea­tur­ing an­nu­ally chang­ing ex­hi­bi­tions of note, it also owns the most im­por­tant per­ma­nent col­lec­tion of de­sign works.
