CER­TOSA DI SAN MARTINO - Ly­ing atop a hill in the Vomero dis­trict, the for­mer monastery dom­i­nates the en­tire Gulf of Naples. Founded in 1325 by Charles of An­jou, Duke of Cal­abria, over the cen­turies the Char­ter House was en­riched by a num­ber of im­pres­sive arte­facts in­clud­ing marbles, fres­coes, sculp­tures, fur­nish­ings and paint­ings.
