Gelato Festival 2016
Italy’s most important ‘gelato’ festival is currently celebrating its seventh anniversary. An itinerant event that will make nine stopovers across Europe, including Naples
The most important Italian ice cream festival is coming to Naples. This itinerant event which tours Europe and Italy for 5 months every year, stopping in 9 different cities, has been around for seven years. Its hallmark feature are three food trucks: an ice cream laboratory, an event space and a tasting area. In every city, the best ice cream makers in the region will be offering new flavours, created especially for the event in the hopes of winning the title of best Italian ice cream, which will be announced during the last leg of the Festival. In addition to these, 10 new and unique non contending flavours will be presented courtesy of the festival’s sponsors. Each day, the festival will host numerous gastronomic events: starred chefs, master ice cream makers and the most prestigious names in the business will inform the public about the fantastic world of Italian ice cream, its traditions, its secrets and what makes it so unique and coveted the world over. Following stopovers in in Florence, Parma and Rome, the Gelato Festival will reach Naples where it will be held from 19 to 22 May, subsequently resuming its journey to travel to Turin, Milan, London and Valencia, after which it will once again return to Florence at the beginning of September for the final leg of the tour. To sample all the flavours and vote for your favourite, all you have to do is to buy a ‘Gelato Card’ in advance from the website or directly on-site. The flavours presented by the sponsors in Naples will include: Pernigotti, with Santo Domingo Dark Chocolate, Ecuador Dark chocolate, Perù Dark chocolate, Grancacao São Tomé and Stracciatella Cuba; Nutella, based on the recipe by Ferrero; Buontalenti, a cream and vanilla-based speciaity; Cookies, cookieflavoured artisanal gelato, a perfect blend of the creaminess of ice-cream and a mouth watering cream of chocolate and hazlenuts infused with crunchy bits of shortbread.
