7 schoolgirls named in Jamaica’s team for the CRTTF Senior Championships

SEVEN high school girls have been named in Jamaica’s eight-member women’s team for the 68th staging of the 2018 Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Senior Championships to be held in Jamaica from September 23-29 at the National Arena.

These players were named after participating in the two-day National Trials held on September 8 and 9 at the Jamaica Theological Seminary.

Solesha Young, 14, who attends Alpha Academy, 17-year-old Dadrian Lewis from Ardenne High, 13-year-old Kelsey Davidson from St Jago High, and 11-year-old Brittany Murray from Titchfield High School will represent Jamaica in the women’s team event, as well as the individual events of the championships.

Fourteen-year-old Fiona Li from Immaculate Conception High, 11-yearold Tysaneya Lewis from Wolmer’s High School for Girls, 15-year-old Saejha Monee Rose from St Jago High School, and 20-year-old Larissa Mclaughlin, who attends the University of the West Indies, will also take part in the individual events.

However, they are slated to participate in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events.

Incidentally, national women’s singles champion Yvonne Foster and runner-up Onika Francis, who did not participate in the National Trials, were not selected in the team.

Meanwhile, national men’s singles champion Simon Tomlinson was selected despite missing the National Trials after he failed to arrive in the island.

He will be accompanied by Kane Watson, Christopher Marsh and Alphanso Morris in the individual events.

The men’s team is completed by Rudolph Sinclair, David Williams, Jermaine James and Kweisi Willoughby in individual events.

The men’s doubles event pairings are Tomlinson and Watson; Marsh and Morris; Sinclair and Williams, and James and Willoughby, while for the women’s, the pairings are Young and Lewis, Davidson and Mclaughlin, Murray and Li, and Rose and Lewis.

The mixed doubles pairs are Tomlinson and Young, Watson and Lewis, Marsh and Mclaughlin, Morris and Murray, Sinclair and Davidson, James and Li, Williams and Rose, and Willoughby and Lewis.

Willoughby and Rajni Brown will represent Jamaica in the boys’ Under-21, while Young and Lewis will contest the girls’ Under-21.

The Over-45 men’s will have Alphanso Morris, while the Over-45 women’s will have Andrea Wadsworth and Desirene Greaves as the contestants.
