PONDSIDE, Hanover — Defending champions Rusea’s High and former champions Garvey Maceo High ran their perfect records to four straight after comfortable wins in the ISSA/ Wata dacosta Cup football competition yesterday, both winners getting six goals each.

St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Morant Bay High had their three-game winning runs stopped after drawing their games, while former winners Cornwall College and Frome Technical will have to wait to get their fourth wins as their games were not played due to rain and muddy fields.

After their close brush against Hopewell High on Saturday, Rusea’s High were in control as they brushed aside Merlene Ottey High 6-0 in their Zone B game played at Pondside with Chan Moodie leading the way with two goals.

Deandre Cunningham also scored twice to lead Garvey Maceo High to their fourth win, a 6-1 win over Cross Keys High and widened their lead in Zone M after joint second-placed teams Glenmuir High and Denbigh ended in a 0-0 scoreline.

Clarendon College, last year’s beaten finalists, made it three wins in a row in Zone H with a 5-1 in over Thompson Town with Roderick Granville scoring twice and Antonio Reid, Nicque Daley and Ricardo Mcintosh all adding a goal.

STETHS escaped with a draw against neighbours Lacovia in their Zone E game as they gave up a 1-0 lead.

Lacovia earned two late penalties and, after scoring the first to level the scores, saw the second shot saved.

Maggotty High moved to within a point of STETHS after edging winless Munro College 1-0, while Newell High blanked newcomers Sydney Pagon 4-0.

With Cornwall College idle, Green Pond drew level on nine points after blanking St James High 2-0 with firsthalf goals from Chevaughn Duncan and Nikel Fulmer.

Anchovy High got their second win edging Irwin High 3-2 with two goals from Shaquile West.

Herbert Morrison won their second straight game after losing their first two, edging Holland High 1-0 with a first-half goal from Tajae Bronstroph, who was then sent off in the 65th minute.

Cedric Titus are the leaders in Zone C after blanking William Knibb Memorial 2-0 as Spot Valley and Muschett High drew 1-1.
