Denham Town residents provided with IDS

PRIME Minister Andrew Holness says that up to 80 per cent of adults living in Denham Town, Kingston, now have at least one form of identification (ID) through intervention under the Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO).

“The interventions continue in all aspects of the community, including health, parenting and, importantly, civil registration,” he said in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Residents living in Denham Town are required to show a picture ID when entering or leaving the community, and numerous persons did not have such credentials before the ZOSO was implemented.

Holness told the House that the residents have expressed satisfaction with the security operation. “The residents are very happy and don’t want it to be ending at all,” he noted.

“Ultimately, however, you want the community to evolve to a point where they say, ‘all right, you know what, we’re good right here, so now, go and help somebody else’, and that is what we are working towards,” the prime minister said.

During the sitting of the House of Representatives, members approved the extension of the ZOSO in Denham Town for another three months.

With the extension, the anti-crime initiative, which was slated to end on October 2, will remain in place until January 2019.
