Fambo cites gains from int’l collabs
FUTURE Fambo is urging more Jamaican acts to collaborate with international acts in an effort to grow the genre worldwide and for their own personal growth.
“Collaborating with international artistes doesn’t make you a sellout as long as you are staying true to your sound; it actually opens dancehall up to markets that would usually not be listening to the genre,” Fambo explained.
In his more than 25-year career, Fambo has collaborated with American top-flight acts including Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg. He recently worked with rapper Gucci Mane on the remix to his dancehall single How We Living. Produced by Toronto-based label White Gad Records, the song is already trending and has received more than 200,000 views on Youtube.
“I always promote material in Jamaica because this is the home of dancehall but we only have three million people, if we want to reach three billion people you have to take dancehall to them,” Fambo added
The Rum and Redbull singer doesn’t believe dancehall artistes have to abandon dancehall music to crossover to other markets either.
“The world loves dancehall and is sampling it without us. It makes better sense to collaborate with them on our terms. Dancehall artistes should never try to become rappers to crossover,” said Fambo.
The artiste is also gearing up to release his full length album with collabs with Tory Lanez and Kranium in early 2019.
Fambo heads to the US later this month for a promotional tour for the How We Living project starting in New York and North Carolina before expanding to other cities in October.
