Magna Motors Dealers Limited, the exclusive distributor of Hyundai motor vehicles in Jamaica, launched the 2019 models of two of the three sport utility vehicles (SUVS) in its line-up: the Tucson and Santa Fe. The occasion took place on the grounds of the currently under-construction showroom on Oxford Road in New Kingston on Friday, September 7.

“These two represent best value for money from Hyundai. The products that come with each of these vehicles are just phenomenal, making them easier to drive, easier to live with and an experience that every time you get into one something new and exciting is waiting for the owner,” Carlos Geourzoung, sales manager at Magna Motors Dealership Ltd, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.

The Tucson is Hyundai’s mid-range SUV. For 2019, it gets refreshed sheet metal providing an updated and evolutionary look on the outgoing model’s appearance. However, it’s all new under the bodywork. The biggest change starts under the bonnet. Following the trend of rivals, it’s the smaller engine that powers the premium model. Starting from just over $5 million the base trim Tucson uses a 2-litre engine. Higher trims use a 1.6-litre turbocharged motor with a horsepower output of 177, 22 bhp more than the 2-litre. Two and four-wheel drives are available.

The 2019 Tucson also sees a big jump in creature comforts, beyond the standard leather and power options. Wheel sizes up to 19-inches can be had, so can a panoramic sunroof. Wireless changing and auto open electronic rear tailgate are some of the other many features.

“The previous generation Tucson was our best-selling SUV, primarily given its price point, but we think the new Santa Fe will be very close, because it has a lot of features that buyers love,” Geourzoung explained.

The previous model the Santa Fe set the visual tone for the other Hyundai SUVS down the range. The new one takes the design language onto itself. There’ll be no mistaking the 2019 Santa Fe for the smaller Tucson. There are familial ties due to the grille work and logo, but the aggressively creased lines are attractive and distinctive. With seven seats the Santa Fe is packed to the gills with technology, available in both two and four-wheel drive, and remains one of the few players in the segment to offer a diesel option.

According to the Geourzoung, the smallest Hyundai SUV, the Creta, will be launched before the end of the year completing the brand’s three SUV line-up.
