Classy Miss gets her chance, takes it
After Classy Miss’ commanding win in a maiden condition race last Saturday, trainer Ian Parsard is hoping that his problematic filly can turn her bad habits around and become more stable.
Classy Miss had two races prior to Saturday’s (September 15, 2018) run and in both races, she suffered a lot of complications.
February 24, 2018 was the first time Classy Miss stepped on the racetrack to compete and after giving trouble at the start of the race, she never recovered and came in second-to-last by 18 3/4 lengths over seven furlongs (1,400m).
Her second outing was on March 10, 2018 over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course. This time Classy Miss broke well and led the field coming into the lane but she bled badly and didn’t finish the race.
On Saturday last, Classy Miss made her third attempt and this time she was a three-length winner going five-anda-half furlongs (1,100m).
Classy Miss was a handful when coming onto the racetrack, giving her groom and outriders a difficult time before going to the starting gates but did not have too many issues going into her assigned stall.
When the starter let the runners go,
Classy Miss (Dane Dawkins), got a good break and stalked the leaders closely running the half-mile turn.
With a quick change at the top of the lane, Classy Miss powered past rivals on her way to a comfortable win. Queens Highway (Anthony Thomas) ran well for second place with Giaconda (Dick Cardenas) third.

ran the distance in an encouraging 1:07.4.
Parsard said that he was pleased with his charge’s performance and is hoping for better.
“The performance was good enough. Classy Miss was one of those horses in the barn we had high hopes for but she has been plagued with a lot of issues and was unable to get the opportunity to prove her worth.
“She is a half-sister to Sundance and he is problematic and she has some of those bad tendencies and to make it worse, Classy Miss is a very bad bleeder.
“So far we are lucky to bring her and we are happy she got home. We are going to take it one step at a time and see what the next step is,” Parsard shared.
