PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS FOR SEPTEMBER 15, 2018

- BY WES MARTIN

RACE 1-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE III (4-YEAROLDS&UPNW3) 1400METRES/7FURLONGS

Winter Is Coming led marginally with Deal Marker alongside before assuming sole leadership approaching the home straight. Star, saving ground and Musketoon wide, took closer orders in the upper stretch with the former securing a clear run on the far rails. Surprisingly, Winter Is Coming failed to find extra entering the last 200 metres and Star took over and went on to beat the late rush of Subbie by one and a half lengths.

RACE 2-MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT (TWOYEAR-OLDS) 1000METRES/5FURLONGS ROUND

Top Shelf, from a smart break, led favourite Sweet Like Sugar with the pair going clear from early. In the final part of the bend Sweet Like Sugar was forced somewhat wide with a clever bit of riding by Hakeem Pottinger as the maneuver left the challenger seemingly unbalanced. Top Shelf used the extra advantage and ran well enough inside the last 100 metres to hold Sweet Like Sugar by a half a length.

RACE 3-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE V (5YOS&UP/NW2) 1000METRES/FURLONGS ROUND

Bloemfontein led Lola Grey until weakening quickly in the upper straight. Guava Ground moved sharply from third to gain on the leaders on turning for home. Left in the lead, Lola Grey had no answer when Guava Ground delivered his challenge in the last 200 metres but kept on well to secure second easily in front of Explosive Charge.

RACE 4-MAIDEN CONDITION (THREE-YEAROLD FILLIES) 1100METRES/5 1/2FURLONGS

Classy Miss ran prominently with Queen’s Highway, Nyoka Classic, Dreamingofanna and Giaconda to the top of the stretch before quickening to register a three-length victory. Disappointingly, well backed Aria was hopelessly left behind at the start and equally favoured Dreamingofanna dropped out of contention tamely.

RACE 5-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE II (THREE-YEAR-OLDS/NW2) 1500METRES/7 1/2FURLONGS

Leading on the bridle from early, Jacko Links was chased to the top of the home straight by Kalahari with Elal assuming a good position to challenge and was able to force a narrow advantage entering the last 200 metres. Mounting a strong rally, Jacko Links stayed on better and emerged with a two-length winning advantage at the line.

RACE 6-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE IV (5YOS&UP/NW3) 1000METRES/5FURLONGS STRAIGHT

Favourite Lady Carmen, led on the stand side with Cat’s Rigger, Jon Marshall, Buckaluck and Double Deal prominent in the centre of the track. Blue Moon came to fore on the far side with 400 metres to run and sprinted clear convincingly to win by five and a half lengths with well-backed Boffo securing second close home.

RACE 7-OPEN ALLOWANCE (3YOS&UPWARDS) 1000METRES/5FURLONGS STRAIGHT

Improving Peking Cruz was always in control and came to the distance ahead of a good battle for second between runner-up Sarah Lee and Lightning Lily.

RACE 8-MAIDEN CONDITION (THREE-YEAROLDS) 1000METRES/5FURLONGSSTRAIGHT

Precocious Value led Full Time and Crucial’s Treasure on the stand side before giving way suddenly at the distance. Being away from May, Swaby Baby who looked well trained and much improved physically emerged with the lead on the far side 200 metres out but only just lasted from Lambana’s finishing burst which failed by only a neck.

RACE 9-OVERNIGHT ALLOWANCE (3YOS&UPWARDS0 1300METRES/6 1/2FURLONGS

Sir Budget led to the top of the straight before giving way to Honey Ryda who came to the distance in front with Dysfunctional finishing very strongly. It was a good effort from Honey Ryda to stay in front but Dysfunctional had too much class and beat her by four and a half lengths. Without Exception ran reluctantly in third for the first 900 metres but moved more fluently in the straight to finish third.

RACE 10-$180,000 CLAIMING (3-YEAROLDS&UPWARDS) 1200METRES/6FURLONGS

In front comfortably virtually from the gates opened, Steve’s Real had his field in trouble fully 800 metres from the finish. Clear at the distance Steve’s Real lost momentum in the last 100 metres but had done so much damage from early it was only Bigbrowngreyhope who got close failing by only one and a quarter lengths.
