INSPORTS All-island Community Football quarter-finals list complete

-

FYFFES Pen of St Elizabeth and Majestic Gardens from out of Kingston on Thursday secured the last two quarter-final spots in the INSPORTS All-island Community Football competition.

The St Elizabeth champions eliminated Clarendon’s Brandon Hill with a crushing 6-2 victory at Crawford Sports Complex, booking a date with Manchester’s Christiana United on Sunday in the process.

Majestic Gardens, meanwhile, made their contest against Dumfries of St Thomas look more difficult than it really should have before edging their opponents 2-1 at the Stadium East field.

The city side were nowhere near their majestic best but had the game under control after David Mclean (51st) doubled the advantage following Amelio Willoughby’s (40th) goal late in the first half.

Dumfries goalkeeper Shaun Kelly made several outstanding saves amid some wasteful finishing by Majestic Gardens. However, at the other end Akeem Chambers, in goal for the hosts, took one too many touches inside his six-yard box before losing possession of the ball and allowing Carlton Walker (79th) of Dumfries to reduce the deficit.

The visitors then pushed for the equaliser but Majestic Gardens held on easily in the end.

Majestic Gardens will now travel this Sunday to Rio Nuevo field in St Mary, where they’ll play Content.

In other quarter-final games, Portland’s Fairy Hill entertain St Thomas champions Rovers at Carder Park, while Chedda Empire out of St Catherine visit Crofts Hill community centre, where Douglas Castle await them.

All quarter-final games begin at 3:00 pm.

Majestic Gardens coach Rory Francis was not pleased. “The guys didn’t play to instruction; I keep on telling them about the communication on the field and they keep on breaking down each other with the arguments. We mek the game look harder than it really was. Easily we should have won by four goals, but things didn’t go according to plan.”

Dumfries manager, Nakia Facey took some positives from his team’s experience. “My community is known as an indiscipline community and we almost got the most disciplined team from out of St Thomas, so that is a big step. And to reach this far mi proud of the youth dem. It (competition) really help us a lot. Most of the youth dem on the pitch, they are a lot of indiscipline youth on the pitch; and it really help from this competition come up. From we play the first match the discipline improve a lot. This is a wonderful get-together for the unattached youth.”
