JN Bank clip ICWI in Inter-bank football rally
JN Bank won their third Bankers’ Association five-aside football title when they clipped first-time finalists ICWI 2-1 in the final of 2018 Western Sports-sponsored Inter-bank Football Competition last Sunday at the NWC playing field, Mona.
The semi-final and final were completed the previous Tuesday as heavy rains had washed out the games. Defending champions Sagicor Bank were knocked out on Sunday as they only got a point from ICWI and lost to JN Bank, Scotiabank and Bank of Jamaica. In the semi-finals, JN Bank defeated many-time champions Scotiabank with Chevon Williams scoring a hattrick, while Stefan Bartley got the consolation for the losers.
ICWI improved on their semi-final placing from 2017 by defeating BOJ 1-0 in penalty shoot out after both teams ended 1-1.
The final was a game of two halves as JN Bank dominated the first half and led 2-0 with Chevon Williams and Kimani Young scoring on goalkeeper Adrian Mcbean from close range.
ICWI came out a different team in the second half and pulled back a goal when Christopher Davis kicked past a hapless Marlon Smith in goal. The game ended 2-1 as Vivian Lawes, Dyshone Clarke, Rashiedee Brown and Freddy Pragnell defended stoutly until the final whistle and prevented Orlando Green, Ryan Daley, Ian Parish and Charles Tam from scoring.
The traditional dress parade was won by Scotiabank, with Bank of Jamaica placing second and Jamaica National, third. The league competition for the Norman Goodison League Trophy will commence tomorrow with two matches at NWC playing field, Mona.
NCB will play Sagicor Bank at 2:00 pm and defending champions Scotiabank will meet JN Bank at 4:00 pm.
