Corn­wall seek to keep un­beaten streak in bas­ket­ball

MON­TEGO BAY, St James — Corn­wall Col­lege will be hop­ing to ex­tend their un­beaten run in the ISSA West­ern Con­fer­ence boys’ bas­ket­ball com­pe­ti­tion to­day when they host York Cas­tle in a dou­ble-header in Mon­tego Bay, start­ing at 2:00 pm.

Corn­wall Col­lege are tied for the lead in the Un­der-16 sec­tion with de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Her­bert Mor­ri­son Tech­ni­cal, both win­ning their first three games. Corn­wall Col­lege are in sec­ond place in the Un­der-19, with two wins, be­hind Her­bert Mor­ri­son’s three vic­to­ries.

Also to­day, Rhodes Hall High will host Wil­liam Knibb Memo­rial in a dou­ble-header at Rhodes Hall.

Wil­liam Knibb Memo­rial have won a game in each sec­tion, while Rhodes Hall are yet to win a game in any of the cat­e­gories.

Mean­while, St James High won their first game in the Un­der-16 sec­tion on Wed­nes­day, beat­ing win­less Muschett High 44-33 at the Mon­tego Bay Cricket Club.

The game was close for the first three quar­ters un­til St James took con­trol in the fi­nal quar­ter and eased away to an 11-point win led by a game-high 19 points from Ki­mauny Welch.

St James led 6-4 and 21-17 after the first two quar­ters, re­spec­tively, and were up by four points (33-29) go­ing into the fourth quar­ter be­fore step­ping on the gas and mov­ing away.

Ma­like Marston also scored eight points for St James High, while Lau­ton Cox scored 12 points for Muschett High.

On Mon­day, Corn­wall Col­lege ex­tended their good start with a win over Muschett High in Mon­tego Bay, while York Cas­tle also had a dou­ble over Wil­liam Knibb Memo­rial in Brown’s Town.

Omar Campbell got a triple-dou­ble 14 points and had 19 re­bounds and 11 steals to lead Corn­wall to a 49-37 win in the Un­der-19 sec­tion, while three play­ers got dou­ble-dou­bles as Corn­wall out­classed Muschett High 95-7 in the Un­der-16 sec­tion.

York Cas­tle got their first wins of the sea­son on Mon­day, beat­ing Wil­liam Knibb Memo­rial 49-33 in the Un­der-19 game after win­ning the Un­der-16 by for­feit as Wil­liam Knibb failed to field a team.
