Inaugral civil service week

-

Astrong contingent of civil servants, their family, friends and general supporters gathered at Emancipation Park last month to help raise funds for Sophie’s Place and St Anthony’s Children’s Home.

According to reigning LASCO/NURSES’ Association of Jamaica Nurse of the Year Denese Dacres-reeves it was great to see civil servants rally around a great cause.

“Being a civil servant, there is an almost natural readiness and willingness to serve, and to do so selflessly. And I believe this race provided a new format in which we could contribute to our nation and especially those in need.

“I salute all civil servants across Jamaica for their sterling work and all the persons who participated in the run/walk. Jamaica is a place where love and care is evident as was displayed...”

Top male performer for the 5K run Kemar Leslie of Rainforest Seafoods, who finished in 17 minutes and 14 seconds, pushed beyond his limits to come out and give his support.

“I came into the race a bit tired because I am preparing for Reggae Marathon, so I’m doing a lot of mileage. My body was a bit tired, but I am OK with the run today,” he said. “I came out today to support civil servants. Our company always supports causes like these and our leader, Allison Sutherland, ensures that we come out and support initiatives such as these.”

Kosiani Dunkley from the Tax Administration office took second place in 17.19 minutes, and Gerold Palmer claimed third place in a time of 19 minutes.

Chaniel Campbell of the Mavis Bank Track took first place for the women’s category in the 5K run with a time of 22.17 minutes, while Crystal Coke of Team DPP placed second in 24.25 minutes and third-place finisher Karlene Blagrove stopped the clock at 24.42 minutes.

Winners of the 5K walk category were Lenworth Hunter and Anna-kay Swaby with finishing times of 29.05 and 32.35 minutes, respectively.
