BOJ, Sco­tia­bank dom­i­nate 2018 In­ter­bank Foot­ball Awards

BANK of Ja­maica (BOJ) and Sco­tia­bank were the ma­jor win­ners at the 2018 Western Sports-spon­sored Nor­man Good­i­son In­ter­bank Foot­ball awards cer­e­mony at the Bank Of Ja­maica Au­di­to­rium re­cently.

Bank of Ja­maica won their sec­ond In­ter­bank league ti­tle by de­thron­ing Sco­tia­bank by a point in that com­pe­ti­tion. JN Bank won their sec­ond Bankers As­so­ci­a­tion tro­phy for the Five-a-side One-day Rally Com­pe­ti­tion af­ter de­feat­ing ICWI 2-1 in the fi­nal.

Sco­tia­bank won the Jam­clear Cup Knock­out ti­tle for the first time when they de­feated third­time fi­nal­ist Sagi­cor Group 5-2 in the fi­nal. They also won the Cham­pion of Cham­pion Tro­phy af­ter stop­ping league cham­pion BOJ 4-0 and also the Dress Pa­rade ti­tle. Other win­ners on the night were Na­tional Com­mer­cial Bank (NCB) who won the most dis­ci­plined team award.

In­ter­bank Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion Pres­i­dent Liv­ing­stone Mor­ri­son wel­comed the teams and im­pressed upon the play­ers the im­por­tance of putting their best foot for­ward re­gard­less of the league they were play­ing as they rep­re­sent their com­pa­nies. They were also re­minded that sport was a ve­hi­cle for some of them to get a start in life and that they must show loy­alty to their em­ploy­ers who pro­vided this op­por­tu­nity.

In ad­di­tion, Mor­ri­son wel­comed and con­grat­u­lated cham­pi­ons, the Bank of Ja­maica who won their first ti­tle in 2001 when he was a player for BOJ. He also ex­tended warm wel­come to Sagi­cor, who were run­ners-up in the Jam­clear Cup Knock­out com­pe­ti­tion, Sco­tia­bank, JN Bank, NCB, ICWI, and Fi­nan­cial Ser­vices Com­mis­sion who all con­trib­uted in a mean­ing­ful way to­wards mak­ing the 2018 sea­son a re­sound­ing suc­cess.

We guar­an­tee high vis­i­bil­ity at low cost for all our spon­sors,” Mor­ri­son said.

In the league, O’brien Dun­can of BOJ won the goal­keeper award, the Most Valu­able Player (MVP Award was won by cap­tain of BOJ Akeem Them­stead. In the FiveA-side com­pe­ti­tion, Ro­han Da­ley of Sagi­cor Group won the lead­ing goalscorer award with four goals and and the Most Valu­able Player Award went to Chevon Wil­liams of JN Bank.

In the Jam­clear Cup knock­out cap­tain of Sco­tia­bank Stephan Bart­ley won the MVP tro­phy. Other awards for ref­er­ee­ing ser­vices ren­dered in the com­pe­ti­tion fi­nals went to Wil­ver­glen Lamey, Harvill Harris, Richard Mitchell, Leroy Willer, Yanique Jar­rett and Shomari Cooke-mor­ris. All in­di­vid­ual awardees re­ceived gift cer­tifi­cates from spon­sor Western Sports Lim­ited. Coach of the Year went to Peter “Metro” Grant of BOJ and the Man­ager of the Year award went to Clint Reid of BOJ.

A spe­cial pre­sen­ta­tion was held at the end of the awards for Pres­i­dent Mor­ri­son, who will be leav­ing the Bank of Ja­maica at the end of the year. Mor­ri­son has been the Pres­i­dent of the In­ter­bank Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion since 1986 and also a Deputy Gover­nor at the Bank of Ja­maica.

Emo­tional trib­utes were given by BOJ Sports and So­cial Club Pres­i­dent Tr­ishell Wil­liams, who is also the cap­tain of their net­ball team, the mem­bers of the Bank of Ja­maica and Sco­tia­bank foot­ball teams and also KSAFA Pres­i­dent Wayne Shaw and Busi­ness House Bas­ket­ball Pres­i­dent, Ma­jor Clifton Lums­den.
