Wolmer’s face Emmanuel in Alberga Cup football final today

UNFANCIED Wolmer’s Prep and Emmanuel Christian Academy will contest the 2018 Jamaica Independent Schools’ Association (Jisa)/tastee Preparatory Schools football final today at the Sts Peter and Paul Prep School grounds, starting at 2:30 pm.

Both teams reached today’s final by winning their respective semi-finals on Wednesday at the same venue when Wolmer’s clipped Quest Prep 1-0 through Adean Blair’s goal. Emmanuel Christian Academy, through goals from Raymond Samuel and Joshua King in the 15th and 61st minutes, get a 2-1 win against Henriques Cup Knockout champions Mona Prep. Brian Maylew scored Mona’s lone goal in the 44th minute.

Raymond Leveridge, coach of Wolmer’s, said he is feeling good and very confident that the team will come out winners. “It is over 20 years that Wolmer’s has not won the Alberga Cup title and last year they came very close to be beaten on penalties by Lannaman’s.”

The Wolmer’s coach said he has seen Emmanuel in action only twice and they are a well-balanced team, as they have scored the most goals in the entire competition.

Leveridge expects his leading goal-scorers, vice-captain Jabmani Bell with 25 goals, Oneil Blair with 13 goals, and captain Triq Livermore with seven goals, to prove key figures in Wolmer’s victory bid.

Emmanuel’s coach Gregory Jones is also optimistic.

“I am feeling very good as we had a three-year development programme that we should reach the final and the boys really delivered and I’m proud to achieve this feat.”

Livermore recalled that last year Emmanuel played Wolmer’s three times with his opponents getting the better of his team by winning two matches and drawing one.

Having seen Wolmer’s play, he said that it should be a very tough one for his team, as they are a very good team and will be hard to beat. “Emmanuel, however, still has a good chance of winning, and the camp believes that we can pull it off providing the players do the right things as planned during the game.”

He expects his leading scorers, Jadon Dunbar with 19 goals, Joshua King with 12 goals, and Djaz Less with nine goals to score and set them on the pathway to their first title victory.

Quest Prep and Mona Prep will face each other in the thirdplace play-off, starting at 1:00 pm.
