SPEAKING OF LONDON...
It could be argued that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is besotted with actors of Caribbean descent. Black Panther was a breakout film for a number of folks with Caribbean blood, and the upcoming Captain Marvel (set to hit North American theatres on March 8) will, too, have a dose of Jamaican spice. Lashana Lynch — a British actress with Jamaican parents — will play the role of fighter pilot Maria Rambeau. Lynch’s character is bosom buddies with Carol Danvers/captain Marvel played by Brie Larson.
Lynch grew up in West London and attended the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School. The school has notable alumni that include
Daniel Kaluuya, Dua Lipa, Amy Winehouse and Rita Ora. To date, she is best known for her role in the 2012 British film Fast Girls and on Shonda Rhime’s short-lived ABC period drama Still Star-crossed. Lynch is also a well-respected thespian. She was the recipient of the Laurence Olivier bursary awarded to gifted drama students by London Society of Theatre and has performed in multiple Royal Court Theatre seasons.
Leigh-anne Pinnock, one-quarter of British girl group Little Mix, took to the shores of Jamaica to work on her tan and evade the bleak English winter. The 2011 X Factor UK winning group member touched down in Montego Bay early last week and her Instagram page has been ablaze with likes and comments since posting vacay pics.
