Trainer richard azan registered a polished three-timer yesterday at Caymanas Park, which was highlighted by Money Magnet, who won the day’s feature, the reggae Trophy, a Grade 1 event.

Money Magnet once again displayed true grit and determination in landing the quick dash over the five furlong (1,000 metres) straight course.

With a mere 50.5 kgs in her back compared with the 57.0 kgs carried by Chace The Great and the outside draw in her favour, the five-yearold chestnut mare (Nuclear Wayne – Jazzy Jet), executed efficiently under the guidance of champion jockey Anthony Thomas to turn the tables on her main rival.

After coming away well from post position seven, Money Magnet was held by Thomas as stablemate Peking Cruz (Daniel Satchell) dictated terms ahead of Exhilarate (Raddesh Roman) and Chace The Great.

As the runners dashed past the dummy rails, Thomas asked the Nya-owned Money Magnet to go and they soon hooked up with Chace The Great and a busy Nelson on the front end in a drive towards the wire.

In the end a pushed-out Money Magnet came home in front by one-and-a-quarter lengths ahead of Chace The Great, with Peking Cruz a further three lengths in third.

The Richard Azan and Edison Chai-bred Money Magnet covered the distance in a brisk 58.0 behind splits of 22.2 and 44.3.

An elated Thomas gave an assessment of the performance.

“I knew Chace The Great was on the far side but I wasn’t concerned because I was confident that once I kept her (Money Magnet) in my hands and ask her to run, she would deliver because she is a very nice filly,” Thomas shared.

Azan’s other winners were Five Star (Daniel Thompson up) in the third and Si Me Now (Trevor Simpson up) in the eight.

Four jockeys –Shane Ellis, apprentices Kiaman Mcgregor, Christopher Mamdeen and Trevor Simpson – had two winners apiece on the day.
