Mcauley held by Watsonton in first-leg tie
DEFENDING champions Mcauley were held to a 1-1 draw by Watsonton during the INSPORTS All-island Primary School round-of-16 first-leg tie at Pawsey Park in Lionel Town, Clarendon, last Friday.
Following a very tight and competitive goalless first half, Mcauley’s Steven Bull finally broke the deadlock with eight minutes remaining.
However, the St Catherine champions from Spanish Town were denied full advantage at the death when Uriel Spooner scored from the penalty spot to give the Clarendon parish kings hope going into this week’s second leg.
Earlier at the same venue, wild card entrant York Town stunned last season’s semi-finalist and St Andrew winners, August Town 2-0.
The visitors were placed under early pressure when Orel Miller fired York Town in front in the fourth minute. And they wrapped up the first-leg tie late, courtesy of Junior Robinson’s goal.
At the Bell Chung Oval in Kingston, St Benedict’s hold the advantage after blanking Waterford 2-0. Two early second-half strikes by Kimani Reece and Ronaldinho Richards made the game safe for the Kingston city boys.
New Forest of Manchester were given a 3-0 scoreline over St Elizabeth’s Marie Cole Memorial, after the latter were penalised for presenting improper identification cards.
The return games are set for today and Wednesday.
