Dunbeholden stifle Waterhouse at Royal Lakes Complex

DUNBEHOLDEN FC dug deep to secure a nil-all result against former champions Waterhouse FC in the Red Stripe Premier League match at Royal Lakes Complex yesterday.
Waterhouse provisionally hold onto second place on 41 points, while Dunbeholden stay 11th in the 12-team standings with 20 points.
Dunbeholden Assistant Coach Andrew Fraser was pleased with the point gained as they bid to avoid demotion.
“It was a good game overall, but we’re still disappointed because we created a lot of chances and never executed. We played against a tough opponent and we held out; it’s good to get this draw although it’s at home,” he told the Jamaica Observer during a post-game interview.
Lamar Morgan, the Waterhouse assistant coach, was not overly disappointed his team was left to settle for a share of the spoils.
“I’m not pleased with the result, but at the end of the day [playing] away from home, and getting a point we have to just give thanks for it,” he said.
“They are a bottom-ofthe-table team, fighting against relegation, so they came with the intention of trying to play behind the ball and not giving up anything behind the back so it was a bit difficult for us,” Morgan continued.
In warm afternoon conditions at the St Catherine venue, the hosts started brightly enough, stringing together passes and springing forays into Waterhouse defensive third. Nickoy Christian, Lorenzo Dubidad and Demareo Phillips were usually at the centre of those attacks from the promoted side.
At the other end, Waterhouse had early openings of their own — Tremaine Stewart and Kenroy Howell the dominant creative sources behind much of their positive play.
But as the half went on, there was very little by way of entertainment for spectators, and the teams entered the break scoreless.
The second stanza contained even less spark, with wayward shooting, particularly from Dunbeholden, frustrating the good-sized turnout at the venue.
Dunbeholden’s Narado Brown headed high after looking set to send his team ahead, before Waterhouse’s Stewart struck a right-footed free kick that beat goalkeeper Eric Edwards and smacked onto the crossbar.
In the last 15 minutes, Waterhouse bossed possession in search of a winner, but the Dunbeholden defence stood tall to withstand the threat.
