-

NMIA Airports Limited operates one of Jamaica’s landmark institutions - the Norman Manley International Airport. For the past 15 years NMIA has played a pivotal role in air transportation linking Kingston and the Central and Eastern areas of Jamaica.

The 15 year milestone of NMIA Airports Limited is particularly significant as it comes on the heels of the recently announced preferred bidder for the NMIA Pubilc Private Partnership. This means a change is imminent. Let me use this opportunity to thank the management and staff of NMIA who have deligently executed their role to tranform the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) into a state-of-the-art facility.

Indeed, since its incorporation in 2003, NMIAL has been operating under the policy guidance of the Ministry of Transport maintaining an environmentally friendly airport, providing worldclass service with a uniquely Jamaican character. In that regard, over that period, there have been major achievements to include, a multi-level departures concourse, state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control Tower, automation of passenger services ( baggage handling, check-in, Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS), car park access, security sytem for passenger and baggage screening, jet bridges, expanded hangar facilitation, a robust waste disposal system, an environment protection programme, expanded Duty Free and airport shopping facilities, award winning arrivals and departures executive lounges and many more.

I again extend heartiest congratulations to the team at NMIAL for having been recognised by the Airport Council International Latin America and Caribbean (ACI-LAC ) as the Most Improved Airport in the Region and was also ranked #2 in Airport Service Quality. The prestigious World Travel Award also gave the airport the nominee nod in 2016 and 2017 for Leading Caribbean Airport. This was truly a proud moment.

I commend NMIAL for its contribution to building our great nation.

As you celebrate your 15th anniversary with your partners and stakeholders with the staging of various events during the period September – December, I wish you every success.
