Marsha-gaye Nelson,

the 21st Century Boss Lady

-

Fierce, determined, visionary – a few words that describe the ‘boss lady’ of Mother’s Enterprises Limited, Marsha-gaye Nelson. She has held the role of Retail Operations Manager of the great Jamaican food company for 5 years, but has been in the Mother’s family for over a decade.

Having joined the team as Human Resources Administrator, she was later promoted to Human Resources Manager and then Retail Operations (ROPS) Manager. An alumnus of the University of West Indies and Florida International University, she holds a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management. In fact, her heart beats for human resources, with her passion being people management. The consummate ‘people person’, this trait serves her well as she manages upwards of 650 team members within Mother’s Enterprises. Under her ambit as ROPS Manager of the dynamic food company are canteens, restaurants, a bistro, and a bakery retail store – a massive portfolio that keeps her zipping across the country. Beyond managing the nuts and bolts of these businesses with the help of her trusty support teams, her job largely involves empowering her retail team to manage their locations most efficiently, whilst providing a food experience that is so much better. Empowering women, who comprise more than 70% of the Mother’s staff complement, is the mandate of this 5ft 3 dynamo. Making the army of women in the workplace truly a force to be reckoned with, one woman at a time. In her own words, “Empowered women empower women.”

“I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn
