ALL SET FOR BEACH J’OUVERT

- BY KEDIESHA PERRY

ORGANISERS of Bacchanal Jamaica are confident their signature fete, Beach J’ouvert, has the perfect ingredients for a good time.

“Beach carnival is a perfect mix, a perfect fit of sand, soca and alcohol,” Michael Ammar Jr, a director of Bacchanal Jamaica, told the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.

Beach J’ouvert is scheduled for Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St Ann on Saturday. It is the event’s 10th staging.

Ammar Jr is promising that this year will be exceptional.

“It’s our second biggest party. In fact, when we started, people from Trinidad thought it was a sunrise party ‘cause you know that’s when they have j’ouvert in their country. We came up with the concept

and now others are borrowing from our concept,” he said.

“Everything has completely changed. In the past, there was a concert, now this is an all-day crazy party. We’ve added foam, we have water trucks and paint. On top of that, it’s neon paint which has never been used before in Jamaica,” he explained.

Shenseea and Shal Marshall are slated to perform. DJS Tyler, Cyclone, Smoke, and Patrick the Hypeman are expected to provide the musical selections.

The director said he is pleased with ticket sales.

“The sales have been good. A lot of tickets are usually sold in the last few days. The early birds have sold out... but you never really can tell until after the event. So far, it’s been good,” he added.
