24 Seven Café Green Initatives

-

The 24 Seven Café at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel wants to make a difference in pleasing the palate of its customers but it also wants to make a difference in saving the environment. To be more environmentally conscious, they have started an eco-friendly campaign “Go Green 24 Seven”. The main objectives of the campaign are to reduce the 24 Seven Café’s and by extension the hotel’s carbon foot print.

The main activation for the campaign is the sale of biodegradable cups to reduce plastic waste. Customers are encouraged to reuse their eco-cup and receive a 10% discount on hot beverages. Part proceeds from the sale of the cups will be going towards The Jamaica Environment Trust to help in funding environmental protection projects.

The café is making an effort to sensitize kids from ages 6 – 10 about how they can be a champion for sustainable environment. To that end, the Jamaica Pegasus has designed “Go Green 24 Seven” colouring books that educate children on how they can save the environment. These colouring books have been distributed to selected schools and will be provided to children of guests staying at the hotel. The idea of colouring books was sparked because they wanted to teach children how to save the environment in a fun way. This will further spread awareness about the campaign and ultimately motivate children to be eco-friendly.

Apart from these major activities, the Jamaica Pegasus has implemented recycle bins around its property. By doing this, the hotel has been actively involved in a recycling project. Through this project, it provides bottles to Recycling Partners of Jamaica. The hotel is also replacing all plastic containers with paper products and removing styrofoam especially in the Food and Beverage Department.

The Courtleigh Hospitality Group comprising of The Courtleigh Hotel and Suites, The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, The Knutsford Court Hotel and The Holiday Inn Resort, Montego Bay will continue to implement more environmental strategies during the year.
