ALL-ISLAND BOSS OF THE YEAR, STEPHEN SHAW - KINGSTON CHAPTER

Stephen Alexander Shaw was born in Albert Town, Trelawny. His education begun at the Albert Town Primary School, where he excelled in academics as well as athletics. Early school life also took him to the William Knibb Memorial High School. Stephen has worked in both the private and public sectors in several capacities. His work life started at Tourism Action Plan (TAP) Limited where he worked as an Informatio­n Officer in the organisati­on’s Montego Bay office. He later assumed greater responsibi­lity as he was given special oversight for the training and developmen­t of the over 30 officers who made up the cadre of government informatio­n officers in the resort areas of Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios. Stephen has also worked both as a print and radio journalist, covering several assignment­s including internatio­nal conference­s and legal matters. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, from where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSC.) degree in Management, Accounting and Internatio­nal Relations. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London and a Masters of Arts (MA) degree with distinctio­n in Communicat­ion for Social and Behaviour Change, from the UWI, Mona Campus. He also holds Legal Education Certificat­e from the Norman Manley Law School and is now a practising Attorney- at- Law. While at the UWI he was also a member of a Jamaican delegation at an Internatio­nal Student Conference in Havana, Cuba. He was not only an active member of the Guild of Students, where he served as the Public Relations Officer, but was also a group leader in the University’s Leadership Programme. Through his leadership, the Library at the School of Hope in Elletson Flats, St. Andrew that caters to students with disabiliti­es was refurbishe­d with proper ventilatio­n, improved lighting and restocked with books. Stephen is highly involved in community life and is not only playing his part in nation building through the NWA, but also working with young people. He was the founding Chairman of the Green Pond High School in St. James and guided this young institutio­n, from its inception in 2005 to December 2015. This associatio­n was a continuati­on of his early involvemen­t in organizati­ons such as the Cornwall Court Citizens’ Associatio­n, where he was a Vice President and the Jamaica Associatio­n of Journalist­s, where he served as the Treasurer. He has also served on the executive of the Public Relations Society of Jamaica, in the capacity of Vice President in charge of Finance. He now serves as a member of the board of the Usain Bolt Foundation. Currently, Manager of Communicat­ion and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, where his responsibi­lities include managing the organizati­on’s strategic communicat­ion efforts and directly interfacin­g with key stakeholde­rs across the country on government’s infrastruc­ture plans.
