ALL-ISLAND BOSS OF THE YEAR, STEPHEN SHAW - KINGSTON CHAPTER
Stephen Alexander Shaw was born in Albert Town, Trelawny. His education begun at the Albert Town Primary School, where he excelled in academics as well as athletics. Early school life also took him to the William Knibb Memorial High School. Stephen has worked in both the private and public sectors in several capacities. His work life started at Tourism Action Plan (TAP) Limited where he worked as an Information Officer in the organisation’s Montego Bay office. He later assumed greater responsibility as he was given special oversight for the training and development of the over 30 officers who made up the cadre of government information officers in the resort areas of Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios. Stephen has also worked both as a print and radio journalist, covering several assignments including international conferences and legal matters. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, from where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSC.) degree in Management, Accounting and International Relations. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London and a Masters of Arts (MA) degree with distinction in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change, from the UWI, Mona Campus. He also holds Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School and is now a practising Attorney- at- Law. While at the UWI he was also a member of a Jamaican delegation at an International Student Conference in Havana, Cuba. He was not only an active member of the Guild of Students, where he served as the Public Relations Officer, but was also a group leader in the University’s Leadership Programme. Through his leadership, the Library at the School of Hope in Elletson Flats, St. Andrew that caters to students with disabilities was refurbished with proper ventilation, improved lighting and restocked with books. Stephen is highly involved in community life and is not only playing his part in nation building through the NWA, but also working with young people. He was the founding Chairman of the Green Pond High School in St. James and guided this young institution, from its inception in 2005 to December 2015. This association was a continuation of his early involvement in organizations such as the Cornwall Court Citizens’ Association, where he was a Vice President and the Jamaica Association of Journalists, where he served as the Treasurer. He has also served on the executive of the Public Relations Society of Jamaica, in the capacity of Vice President in charge of Finance. He now serves as a member of the board of the Usain Bolt Foundation. Currently, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, where his responsibilities include managing the organization’s strategic communication efforts and directly interfacing with key stakeholders across the country on government’s infrastructure plans.
