Violet Kickers roar into semis after 4-0 win over Melbourne Mind Game

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Promoted Violet Kickers completed the semi-final pairings of the St James Football Associatio­n Sandals Resort Internatio­nal Major League on Friday with a 4-0 beating of short-handed Melbourne Mind Game in their return-round game at the UDC Field.

The win took Violet Kickers into second place in Zone One with 18 points past Irwin FC, who finished their schedule with 17 points a day earlier, joining zone winners Lilliput Rovers who are on 24 points.

Another promoted team Cambridge United, and Heights FC topped Zone Two, both on 19 points and separated only by goal-difference.

The regular season will end this afternoon with an outstandin­g Zone Two game with Montego Bay Boys Club facing Marl Road at the UDC Field, set to start at 3:30 pm.

On Friday, Violet Kickers, the runners-up in Division One last season, took advantage of Melbourne Mind Game starting with just nine players to lead 3-0 at half-time as the second half was more or less a stroll for both teams.

Dominic Brissett gave Violet Kickers the lead after just eight minutes and Miguel Willis doubled the advantage in the 12th; Patrick Senior scored a third in the 23rd minute, while Darion Dobson made it 4-0 in the 56th.

Cambridge FC and Heights FC closed out their regular season schedule on Wednesday with a 1-1 draw at the UDC Field. In that contest, central defender Aldrid Ramsay gave Cambridge FC the lead in the 41st minute before Romario Bent pulled Heights FC level in the 57th.
