Vere Tech student wins paid internship

The fourth former will spend two months on a paid internhip at Chas E Ramson — distributo­rs of Foska Oats — as part of a prize package for winning a social change competitio­n at last Thursday’s close-out of cycle four of We Inspire Girls

To Be Strong Women at the Courtleigh Hotel.

Gordon’s social change plan addressed cyberbully­ing.

She also won $50,000 cash; gift baskets from Clean & Clear; Lasco icool and Curves; a lunch voucher; and furniture valued at $600,000 courtesy of Courts Jamaica, the associate partner for the programme.

The Foska Oats brand is the main partner for We Inspire Girls.

The other schools which presented social change plans on Thursday were those involved in the We Inspire Girls to Be Strong High School Tour 20182019 — Dinthill Technical, St Catherine High, BB Coke High, and Westwood High.

Roshelle Mishkah Pinnock from BB Coke placed second and received a lunch voucher valued at $324,000 from Courts Jamaica Ltd.

Keynote speaker at the luncheon, children’s advocate and National Rapporteur on Traffickin­g in Persons Diahann Gordon- Harrison highlighte­d that, “The sky is not the limit, we must aim higher.”

We Inspire Girls To Be Strong Women is spearheade­d by founder & CEO Cortia Bingham-mckenzie.

The team, along with their partners, have hosted more than 50 self-developmen­t and motivation­al workshops in high schools across Jamaica and have directly engaged more than 10,000 girls among whom schools have reported decreases in drop-out rates, increases in student leadership and volunteeri­sm.

The next cycle of We Inspire Girls To Be Strong Women High School Tour begins September 2019.
