Nine vie for St Catherine Festival Queen
The nine contestants from the the towns and communities of Spanish Town, Portmore,
Old harbour and Linstead, who are vying to be crowned Miss St Catherine Festival Queen, were on Friday evening sashed at the reception and sashing ceremony at Rodney’s Memorial in emancipation Square in Spanish Town.
The host for the evening, Shannon Johnson, who was the first runner-up in 2017, said in her opening remarks, “The Jamaican woman has emerged as a resilient and powerful force within the society, both locally and internationally. She is forward-thinking, innovative, independent and is blazing a brand new path for Jamaica and herself.”
This year’s contestants are (from left) Raven Latoya Fearon (Starlight Productions Ltd); Shaqkeera Douglas (Robert’s Funeral home); Davianne Bianca Brown(gore homes); Jessica Boinas (St Catherine Municipal Corporation); Sherika Kenesha Paul (Curves Lasco Distributors); Anna-kay Racquel Levy (NPC Bank); Johnique Shayvan Francis (Municipality of Portmore); Kemoy Noelee Theresa Perry (Jamaica energy Partners) and Khamara Wright (Delmay Distributors Ltd).
The contestants were serenaded by new artiste D Suave who shared his renditions of Ready For Love, everything I Own and Waiting In Vain.
The winner of the Miss St Catherine Festival Queen title will go on to represent the parish along with 12 other parish title holders for the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen crown. The pageant is staged during the annual emancipation and independence celebrations.
