Lyme brings out bess in guests
ORGANISERS of the Bess Jam’s pop-up lyme are pleased with the contributions received for the Bahamas Relief Fund.
“We collected approximately nine heavy-duty bags. Items varied from water, canned food, and toiletries... Some persons even donated clothing,” co-conceptualiser
Lasana Wilson told the Jamaica Observer.
The event was held last Saturday at Janga’s Soundbar in Kingston. Wilson was also elated at the turn out. “Everything went smoothly. Our deejays — Fatalic, Copper Cyclone, Ateam and Kyng Taj — really came through,” he said. He stressed the importance of giving back. “One of the main reasons why young people should choose to give back is to show gratitude for the opportunities that have brought them where they are. Sometimes the best way to thank those who have helped you is to pay it forward by helping someone else,” Wilson said. “While you may not have all the resources you’d like at your disposal, developing a habit of giving early on in life will make you more likely to follow through in the future. Just like any other goal, giving back is a habit that should be nurtured over time — even if you only start with a small donation towards a cause that really matters to you,” he added. On September 1 and 2, Hurricane Dorian claimed the lives of 53 people in The Bahamas while more than 1,300 remain missing. Property damage is estimated at US$7 billion. Since then, several organisations have rallied to assist.
