Tribute from VP Records

Chris Chin (CEO VP Records)

“Growing up in the music business in Jamaica, Bunny Lee was someone I always knew. He did business with my parents at Randy’s Record Mart and had grown up in Greenwich Farm with my mother, so we always considered him a friend of the family. As I grew up and we eventually moved to New York to start VP Records, Mr Lee was a great supporter, choosing us to press or distribute for him in America. I remember Mr Lee being larger than life, he was so upbeat and excited about whichever new artiste or album he was working on. He was a natural salesman and had great vision for the music. He was very detailed, and I would often call on him when searching for a song or contacting someone who was hard to reach. In life, there are people who leave an impression on you and for me, Bunny Lee left an indelible impression.”

Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin (Cofounder VP Records)

“I remember Bunny from high school, he always had a gift for relating to people. My late husband Vincent and I were at Randy’s when Bunny decided to become a producer, and he recorded some of his early hits in the recording studio above the store. He went on to create many reggae and dub classics and became a cornerstone of the music. I’m proud to say, he was a valued partner of ours from the 1960’s and his legacy lives on. The last time we were together was the 2014 Rototom Sunsplash Festival in Spain. Bunny introduced me from the stage – he was the star of the show and shared the limelight with me in such a wonderful way. He had a way of making everyone feel special and I will always remember his kindness and generosity – he will be missed dearly.”
