Austria friendly

-

with a simple tap-in from close range after the Americans got in behind the Boyz on the left-hand side on a swift counter-attack.

Undaunted, the Boyz continued to rely on counter-attacks of their own and were duly rewarded when Lowe, Andre Gray and Kasey Palmer combined upfront, with Lowe applying a cheeky chipped finish to pull a goal back.

But as Whitmore introduced the changes and the undercooked, locally based players came in numbers, the game slipped further and further away.

“I think we were okay up to 60, 65 minutes. We created chances,” Whitmore noted. “[However,] you could see that the chemistry wasn’t there, the cohesiveness [was lacking], a lot of turnovers; but again a team with only two games together, I thought they did well.”

The coach refused to identify individuals who would have impressed him but clearly stated that some will “definitely” be recalled for upcoming assignments.

“Yes, definitely [some of these players will be called for the next game] and I would like to have the whole composition of the team for me to select from for the Gold Cup and pre-world Cup squads — that would be positive for me,” said Whitmore.
