Shaday keeps it original

-

FOR more than two years 18year-old singer Shaday has been building a steady social media following, using her soothing voice to cover tracks from popular Jamaican and international artistes.

However on Friday, March 12 the Jamaican entertainer, whose real name is Shaday Toni-marie Afflick, released her first original track,

African Warrior. It was produced by Sting International — the man who produced several Shaggy hits including It Wasn’t Me, Angel, Oh Carolina, Big Up, Fight This Feeling featuring Beres Hammond, Boombastic

[Remix], and Strength Of A Woman.

Shaday explained that African

Warrior was written to serve as an inspiration to listeners, and a reminder to herself of the strength and blessings that she possesses.

“More and more each day people have been drifting away from knowing the power and strength they possess. I wrote the song hoping that it would serve as a reminder that we, specifically people of colour, possess everything we think we lack, which has already been inside us and passed down through our lineage/ancestors,” she said.

As a devoted student of neo-soul and R&B sounds, African Warrior

—a smooth reggae delivery with playful instrumentals — saw Shaday stepping out of her comfort zone and into unfamiliar territory.

African Warrior, which is currently available for download on itunes,

Spotify, and all major music outlets, is the first track from Shaday’s début album, A Version of Myself, which will be released later this year.

The project is executive-produced by the aforementioned Sting International and it will be released via New York-based label Top Shot Music Group that was founded by Sting International and esteemed label executive Murray Elias, who has worked with the likes of Sean Paul, Barrington Levy, Cutty Ranks, Xxxtentacion, Maluma, Lil Pump, and Swae Lee.
